  1. 70 – Pendlebury, Susanne – – I was a student at Numurkah and I’m a primary school teacher now. I’ll be on a Teaching Exchange in the UK in 2007 so an apology for this reunion. Hopefully my sisters and brother will be attending.

70 – McKeown, Gayle – Furphy – Secondary teacher at Euroa SC

    70 – Lambshead, Jennifer – O’Rourke – Married and work in Aged & Disability, 21 children 21 & 20.

70 – Hill, Gwen – Casey – I commenced at the High School in 1970, then to the Hermitage Church of England Girls Grammar school Geelong 1973, then Monash Uni graduating with a degree in Economics and now work with Sensis as the IT Planning and Governance Manager. Also studied with the Victorian College of the Arts and have a parallel career with Opera Australia and the Victorian Opera chorus. I have two sons aged 19yrs and 14yrs.

70 – McAllister, Margaret – Boers – Worked at Hamon’s chemist for 5 yrs. Had 4 children, helped run 130 cow dairy farm. Sold that in 1995, bought Spoutvac Business in Wodonga, there for 2 yrs. Moved to Harston to take up challenge of 600 acre dairy farm. We were milking 400 cows last year and have now sold them all because of the drought. Changed direction again and going into cropping. It’s all good, we now have a life after getting out of dairying.

70 – Thorpe, Paul – – Plenty of good memories, mostly outside of the classroom. I will always remember the school as being very strong for its sport and out door involvement. Our family left the area at the end of the first term of of 1974. We went to the Mornington Peninsular area at Blairgowrie where our family ran the licensed supermarket for sveral years. I now work with The Skilled Group (labor hire)in customer service & O.H.& S. dealing with work injury recovery etc. I’m married (22 years) with 2 children, Jayden 17 & Leah 13. I hope to be able to make it to the reunion on the Sunday as we have a function on the Saturday night to attend to. Look forward to catching up with some old friends of those years. I have not been back to the area for over 20 years, will anyone know who I am ?

70 – Sinclair, Jan – – Hi to all the 1975 Form 6 people, Sorry that I can’t make it to the re-union. It would have been interesting to catch up with people from our years and reminisce. Way too far to drive for one day. They were good years with some great teachers. We had a lot of fun and learned a bit as well. I have jotted down some of my lasting memories of attending Numurkah Comprehensive High School between 1970 and 1975. I hope that they might spark some great memories for any of you that read these. Peter Webb’s musical of Noye’s Flood, early on round 1970/1971. Five Form 1 groups – N,C,H,S, & V 1970. They never had a 1V again! Girls kneeling to have tunic lengths measured by Miss Cook and Mrs Booth. Grey blazers. Straw hats. No nail polish or earrings. Wearing real ties. Divided playground – boys on one side and girls on the other. Mr Lloyd’s idea ? Seeing what happens when you slide open the lid of a wooden pencil case made in woodwork full of “4 for a cent” aniseed balls and place it upside down on a desk top. Girls only cooking and boys only woodwork classes. The tech wing. The typing room. Religious education. Separate PE for boys and girls. Separate canteen windows for boys and girls. Ballroom dancing lessons with Miss Vincent and Sammy Gooding. A science teacher smoking out the window of our portable classroom, in class. Frank Kitchen’s musical of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Waiting to hear the train pass each day – Andrew W. Iced Christmas cakes in cookery. Getting them home on a bike! Riding a bike with semi-trailers passing at close range on the main road. The trip to Melbourne to see Jesus Christ Superstar, including eating pizza in St Kilda. Having a flashback of someone wearing pink satin flares! Making a cookbook to raise money for something. Mrs Booth would remember. Playing basketball at the Youth Club. Very competitive. People making their deb at the Town Hall. Biology experiments and pracs that never worked! Gayle Mc doing the rat dissection. A walkathon from Melbourne – can’t remember what it was to raise money for. Fantastic art lessons where we could try so many different media. Making an embroidered cooking apron from yellow material with blue checked bias binding. A camp at Howman’s Gap and a Duke of Edinburgh Award overnight stay in a cattleman’s hut nearby. Form 4? Mr McGregor, Mr Ferguson. Canoeing on the creek to prepare. Cross country before the Time Share was built. Another camp at Eppaloch. Form 2? Poss Elliot A fete with donuts and milkshakes in the art room. Rosemary O Mrs McDonald and To Kill A Mockingbird. Virginia, Carmel, Jocelyn and all those novels. Mrs Moore in the library. Form 6 camp at Lake Nihlacootie. The Skyhooks album. Sherbet. Watching Countdown in colour for the first time at El Toro. Form 6 t-shirts and windcheaters. ACDC. Angus Young imitations! John Denver. Watching movies in the hall including old Grand Prix and careers movies. The visit to the Chairman Mao exhibition in Melbourne, and Kerry B’s famous “Goodnight Australia” essay! The 11th of November 1975. The many Form 6 parties in woolsheds and at orchards, and the Saturday night dances at the Shamrock Hotel. The few people with car licences. I guess we wouldn’t change a thing! Hoping that the reunion is a good one and that there will be another one. Please email if you want to get in touch again. I am told someone has started an email register for our year. Cheers, Jan Sinclair Adelaide. For 75 students my email address is: brasinc@esc.net.au

  2. Waaaaahhh, I didn’t get an invite to the reunion…Oh well 🙂
Jan Sinclair, you brought back so many memories!! Brilliant!!!
Although I went travelling around Australia instead of finishing School, I have many memories, some good, some not so crash hot.
I had forgotten so many names & it’s amazing to read them & remember them afterwards.
I am self employed in the transport Industry. I run the business/paperwork, my Husband John does the physical work. Not ideal, but hey, it brings home the bacon. Would love to catch up one day. Cheers Jenni

  3. Oh my goodness so many memories Jan and great to hear about your life Jenny. I married you and divorced and then moved to Melbourne started at Melbourne Uni in education and haven’t look back since am Head of Higher Education and Post Graduate Studies and have letters after my name and when completed next study will be a Doctorate!! Who would have thought and it all started in a small town called Numurkah!

  4. Great to hear that you did so well Kay on leaving Numurkah. I sometimes wondered about you over the years.
Jan Sinclair – your recall was amazing, most of it took me back to that time but unfortunately some of it I couldn’t even remember, must be age but then everyone else on this page is much the same age.
I worked in Numurkah and Shepp for a short time after regrettably dropping out of year 12. Then spent 20 plus years working for the federal government in Melbourne and Brisbane. I have been back in the area for the past 18 years, currently working as an executive officer for a non profit organisation as well as running my own small business. Life is busy but good, for me much better than my school years.

  5. Just read the list of names & comments from the 1970 group. A few old memories to be had. Would be great to catch up with some of them at some stage, not sure when – but one day.
Just to up date, just clocked up 30 years with my first wife & Jayden is now 26 & a carpenter working for himself & Leah is 22 & doing dental nursing. We are still living in Ferntree Gully (1989) & I’m now self employed doing house painting. We have had a few trips to Bali & Vietnam over the last few years & hope to go back to Bali next year for 4 weeks.
Hope all the 1970s are doing well, see ya
    Regards
    Thorpy
