  1. Purchase, Patricia – Young – Currently a Software Engineer: I have had several career changes in my life. Everything is achievable! After Numurkah High School (as it was then known) I left to do nursing at the Alfred Hospital. I then needed another challenge so I went to work at the Coroners Court as a trainee Medical technologist and did a course in Medical Technology. These days it is probably known as forensic science. The most eminent Pathologist I worked for was Dr Keith Bowden. After many years here I went into a newsagency at Port Melbourne with a business partner. After this hard haul I returned to University and completed a degree in Computer Science. I worked in Canberra on several large computer systems and now work as a Consultant Systems Analyst. (In between overseas holidays). A word for today’s students… For many years I have listened to people describe IT as a gender sexist industry. I have never found it to be so. If a woman goes into a work place and starts to play cute games, then you will be treated accordingly. You go into a work place and do your job with due diligence, and complete the tasks you are given and you will discover each person is treatd and promoted according to their merit. NOT on their gender.
